Hi there,

My kitten is 6 months old and for a few days now I've noticed he's trying to mate with my arm. He bites my hand really hard... meows softly... clutches my arm with all four paws and gets quite excited... I push him away... but I'd really like him to grow out of this bad habit!!! I just don't know... this behaviour is leaving me a bit baffled, to be honest.

Have any of you experienced this with one of your own cats?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi, I’m having the exact same issue with my 10-month-old cat, Câline! I’m taking her to the vet to be spayed tomorrow morning. Have a lovely day. She’s in heat.

Phew, regarding the vaccination, the vet told me he’s not working this week because it’s the Eid holidays (the Muslim festival).

    What do you think?

My vet also volunteers on Thursdays at this rescue.

Over here in Rabat, there's a charity that does free spaying and neutering for both males and females, but I'm not sure... I'm a bit worried. I'm always a bit wary of things that are free.

I'm going to ask the vet about the cost again.

Then again, the vet might use gas anaesthesia rather than an injection :/

It’s true that £85 for this op is quite pricey.

SEZEN, that’s a bit pricey – I’ve got a friend in Rabat, so I’ll ask around and see what I can find out –

Around £85 for getting a cat neutered seems a bit steep to me, especially for a country that’s become such a hub for cheap cosmetic surgery. Still, if that’s the going rate there, you’ll just have to bite the bullet.

But I second that—getting him snipped is the only thing that’ll calm your little lad down.

Personally, I only paid about £20 because I was fostering for a rescue, so the manager let me have their "discount". Even without it, I would've only paid around £40, and they did a really good job – my cat wasn't bothered at all.

Give a few places a ring anyway to see if you can find anywhere a bit cheaper. :)

Sezen 4 days, well yeah, maybe even 8 days to let him bounce back from the jab. He’s quite fragile; did you tell the vet he’s only just finished treatment for panleukopenia? Obviously, the vet knows better than us, but he’ll still need a general anaesthetic to be neutered. Mind you, I wouldn't dream of questioning a professional's opinion!!! But 4 days seems a bit soon... did you tell him he or she—I’m getting my cats mixed up here lol—is in heat? Anyway, if it’s the same vet who’s been treating the panleukopenia, he’ll know what’s best, right? Whether it's 4 days or 8 days, another 4 days won't make much difference!! He’s cheaper than Marjo’s vet—it's weird that vets don't all charge the same for neutering, isn't it? Still, it’s not a heavy anaesthetic, so you can have a chat with him on Saturday after the jab. All kittens are fragile, but you’ve got to trust your vet! Laurence and her Noah’s Ark

Yes, that’s pricey for a cat neuter (if your kitty is a male), but prices vary depending on the vet. Personally, I paid about £60 to have my rabbit neutered, which was the same price as for a cat ;)
