There were a few clues suggesting the puppies had lived in a home before being abandoned.
Indeed, the little pups were clean, healthy, and very friendly with their rescuers.
A very unique look
On top of that, these puppies certainly stood out from the crowd. They had a completely unique and distinctive look, so much so that rescuers struggled to work out their breed mix.
Some had a sort of little beard, others a moustache, and some had bushy eyebrows, while others had none of these features at all. However, all seven pups shared large ears and very different coat colours.
A complete mystery
As a result, it is impossible for the shelter staff to determine their breed with any certainty. Plenty of guesses have been thrown around, including mixtures of Belgian Malinois, Schnauzer, Poodle, Basenji, Dutch Shepherd, and Rat Terrier. Many people pointed out that the puppies looked just like the dogs from Wes Anderson's film "Isle of Dogs" – and we couldn't agree more!
So, the mystery remains. The wonderful news is that six of the seven puppies were adopted as soon as they became available, with the final pup finding a loving home the very next day. Perhaps their new owners will do a DNA test to solve the mystery once and for all?
