Rescuers launch investigation after finding 11 puppies in a box

By Ludivine Mazzotti•

On 24 September, rescuers at the APSDA dog shelter in Gironde, France, received a worrying message.

The rescue team had been contacted by a passerby who discovered 11 puppies left in a cardboard box near a forest.

Nobody knows the exact circumstances in which these poor puppies were abandoned...

An urgent rescue

But one thing was certain: they desperately needed help. Rescuers rushed to the scene to save them, and their very first stop was at a local vet clinic to check their health and estimate how old they were.

The vet examination revealed that the little ones are only about three and a half weeks old. At this tender age, they are far too young to be away from their mother, and she will undoubtedly be missing them terribly too. Rescuers decided to place the 11 puppies across several foster homes, where they can receive all the dedicated care and love they need.

Growing suspicions

For the shelter staff, this story does not end with the rescue. They noticed that the puppies in this litter bear a striking resemblance to Boule and Bill, two other puppies taken in by the rescue charity over the summer.

This resemblance has raised serious suspicions. Staff are now left wondering if one or more female dogs are being repeatedly bred in the area. The charity is appealing to anyone with information to get in touch, hoping to prevent more litters from being abandoned in the future.
