Rescuers from the RSPCA Bridlington, Driffield and District Branch took her in.
At the time, they had no idea that the black and white cat was actually pregnant with an extraordinary litter.
A very large litter
Indeed, a few weeks later, Lottie gave birth to... nine kittens! To be precise, there were five males and four females. According to the RSPCA, a cat usually gives birth to between four and six kittens.
With her nine little ones, Lottie has delivered one of the largest litters the shelter has seen in recent years.
Although Lottie is taking excellent care of her babies, she needs a helping hand with such a large family. So, the rescuers are supplementing the kittens' feeds twice a day with milk given via syringe.
Growing up fast
The kittens are now five weeks old, and the staff are delighted to see their different personalities starting to shine through. However, the shelter needs some support to ensure they can continue to care for all their animals in the best possible conditions.
To help, they have asked their community for donations of kitten milk formula and food to help this lovely family grow big and strong. We hope these nine sweet little creatures find loving homes very soon!
A beautiful family
Everyone is doing well
