A veterinary nurse contacted the rescue charity Best Friends Felines to ask for help with the cat and her two tiny kittens.
The little family had been through a tragic ordeal. Sadly, one of Cassava's kittens had not survived, leaving only two babies in the litter.
Dedicated care
The charity's rescuers wanted to do something special for this mum cat who had been through such a tough time. They reached out to one of their dedicated volunteers, who is highly experienced in caring for feline mums and their newborn kittens.
The two surviving kittens were named Tapioca and Sago. One looks just like Cassava with her tortoiseshell coat, while the other is ginger and white.
Chubby little bellies
Thanks to their safe environment and their mum's rich milk, the two kittens gained weight quickly. At just two weeks old, they already weighed 12 ounces. A few weeks later, they were tipping the scales at just over a pound – sporting those adorably round, chubby bellies typical of well-fed kittens!
Now, Tapioca and Sago are three and a half weeks old. They are starting to explore their surroundings, play together, and climb out of their bed all by themselves. Well, they actually "roll" out of bed rather than climb! Their mum is also enjoying some well-deserved breaks, popping over to her foster mum for some cuddles or a quick snack. Life is much sweeter for this little family, and we couldn't be happier for them!
Doing wonderfully well
