During the move, the couple were travelling with their two cats, Pandora and Ziggy.
Both cats were safely tucked away in their own pet carriers for the journey.
A devastating crash
Sadly, things did not go to plan. The couple were involved in a serious road accident. The impact of the crash was so violent that Pandora’s carrier was thrown from the vehicle, and the black cat managed to escape.
Mary, who was driving just behind with her daughter, grandson, and Ziggy, came across the scene moments later. Fortunately, Billy was not seriously injured, but Pandora was nowhere to be seen. The couple searched everywhere for her, but they eventually had to get back on the road, completely heartbroken.
No sign of Pandora
Once they settled in Fraserburgh, Billy and Mary kept up the search, even posting on a local Facebook group. Although several people reported sightings of Pandora, no one managed to catch her. Despite numerous updates about the cat, every lead went cold.
A heartwarming reunion
Everything changed six years later. A local resident contacted Cats Protection after noticing a black cat repeatedly trying to slip into her house.
When rescuers scanned the stray cat's microchip, they realised she was Pandora—and that her family had been looking for her all this time! Fortunately, her owners' contact details were still up to date despite the years that passed. Pandora has now been reunited with her family, bringing immense joy to her humans and her feline sister, Ziggy. What a wonderful happy ending!
