During an operation in Chanteloup-en-Brie, just outside Paris, police officers certainly did not expect such an adventure. While inspecting the corridors of a residential building, the specialist drug-detection dog stopped suddenly in front of a flat door.
Within seconds, the clever canine "marked" the spot with surgical precision, showing his human partners that a suspicious scent was wafting through. Intrigued by the firm reaction of their loyal four-legged colleague, officers from Chessy police station decided immediately to search the property.
An unusual treasure trove
Stepping inside, the officers expected to find only a small amount of herbal cannabis or resin. However, the dog's sharp nose revealed a much bigger surprise. Inside, they found 1.4kg (about 3 lbs) of resin, 1.3kg (nearly 3 lbs) of herbal cannabis, and 17 live cannabis plants in full cultivation.
But that was not all. As reported by French newspaper Le Parisien, a thorough search uncovered an impressive collection of counterfeit goods. They found no fewer than 184 pairs of designer trainers worth around £38,000 (€46,000), collector's boxes of Pokémon cards, several cartons of cigarettes, and around twenty luxury handbags.
A successful arrest thanks to a clever canine
Thanks to the exemplary work of this four-legged hero, the main 50-year-old occupant of the flat was arrested directly at his workplace. He was taken into custody and has since been placed under judicial supervision. He will now have to face charges in court in the nearby town of Meaux.
One thing is certain: without the sharp nose and determination of this wonderful police dog, this impressive hidden stash would probably have remained well out of sight!
