Family rejects cat after 21 years: rescuers heartbroken when they hear the truth

By Ludivine Mazzotti

On 27 August, rescuers from the Toutous et Minous Nîmes association in the Gard department of France were contacted about a heartbreaking situation.

The rescue charity was asked to take in a 21-year-old cat whose family no longer wanted to care for him.

The situation was extremely urgent.

A senior cat in distress

The head of the charity went to collect the senior cat. What she found there deeply saddened her. She discovered that the cat did not have free access to the house. Instead, he was confined to a tiny space, blocked off by several cardboard boxes.

The poor cat had no home comforts or cosy bed. He only had a bowl of water and some dry food that he could no longer eat because of his advanced age. He had spent 21 years by his family's side, only to find he was no longer welcome at the very end of his life...

A fresh start

We were deeply moved by the photos of this terrible situation. This poor, distressed cat needs love, peace, and attention above all else. Fortunately, thanks to the Toutous et Minous Nîmes association, the brave cat is now in a quiet, safe place, surrounded by people ready to care for him.

The charity's team wanted to share an important reminder: senior pets deserve just as much consideration as younger ones. They need comfort, respect, patience, and affection. We wish this brave "grandad cat", as the rescue calls him, all the very best for the future!
