Kitten finds the best foster family, after being severely injured at 5-weeks-old

By Elodie Carpentier

In the small town of Davis, California, one brave kitten decided to live a normal life despite a terrible accident.

As reported by the website The Dodo, Chop was never expected to survive. When he was just a few days old, he was involved in a horrific accident with a lawnmower. The poor kitten lost the outer part of his left ear and the toes on one of his back paws, getting his life off to the worst possible start. But that was without counting on his iron will and the tireless dedication of a California rescue charity.

A fight for survival

Taken in as an emergency by the Orphan Kitten Project, Chop was immediately surrounded by a loving team of volunteers. With daily wound care, keeping his body temperature up, and bottle-feeding him around the clock, the volunteers doted on him constantly.

Once he was successfully weaned and his wounds had healed, Chop showed himself to be a playful and tireless little character. He spent his days chasing toys and play-fighting with the other cats in his home.

A bump in the road

However, when he was about two months old, complications from the accident began to surface. His injured leg did not grow properly, causing a limp that became increasingly painful as he gained weight.

The veterinary team decided to schedule an amputation to ensure he could enjoy a pain-free adult life. It is an operation that three-legged cats usually adapt to very quickly and easily.

As always, his foster family was there to support him through this difficult time.

In fact, they did such a wonderful job that when the time came to look for a permanent home, the choice was obvious. Chop had already found his forever home.
