Fishermen in Mexico rescue an exhausted dog spotted drifting out at sea

What should have been an ordinary fishing trip off Cedros Island in the Pacific Ocean quickly turned into an unexpected rescue mission.

As reported by Le Figaro, the Tag Cabo Sportfishing boat set out at around 6am. Shortly after leaving, the crew spotted an unusual shape bobbing on the water's surface.

An unexpected swimmer

Although the crew initially thought they were looking at a sea lion, the captain's sharp eyes proved them wrong. It was, in fact, a dog.

The poor animal was swimming all alone, nearly a nautical mile from the safety of the shore. Even more worrying, he was clearly disoriented and struggling against the waves to stay afloat. He was swimming in the wrong direction, heading further and further out to open sea.

Reunited with his owner

Manoeuvring their boat carefully to avoid hurting or scaring him any further, the crew managed to pull the exhausted dog safely on board.

When they returned to the port on Cedros Island later that day, the fishermen soon ran into local residents who recognised the dog.

Thanks to their quick actions, the four-legged survivor was reunited with his owner, safe and sound, bringing this extraordinary maritime adventure to a very happy ending.
