Cat caught on camera turning on tap at 1am, flooding owner's flat

A mischievous cat in Baden-Baden, Germany, has caused a major flood in its owner's flat after turning on the kitchen tap in the middle of the night.

During the night of 19 August, a feline's late-night mischief escalated into a full-blown emergency in Baden-Baden, Germany.

At around 1am, the flat's owner, who was away from home at the time, decided to check her home security camera. To her absolute shock, she watched her cat casually turn on the kitchen tap, leaving the water running at full blast.

Water leaks into the neighbour's flat

Panicked, the young woman immediately called the local fire brigade. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they realised there was no time to lose. Water was already leaking out of the property and dripping into a neighbour's storage unit on the floor below.

Firefighters come to the rescue

Fortunately, the pet-sitter looking after the cat was able to provide the keys, allowing the crew to get inside. By then, the kitchen was completely underwater, and the flood had already spread to several other rooms. Firefighters worked quickly, using towels to soak up the water and limit the damage, before advising the owner that a professional drying service would be needed.

As for the mischievous four-legged culprit, he thankfully won't be facing any charges!
