A resident in Modesto, California, made a surprising discovery under their porch. A Pug mum had taken refuge there to give birth to two puppies. As the homeowner looked closer at the little family, they noticed that the babies did not look like their mother at all.
Once alerted to the situation, the charity Oakdale Tiny Paws Rescue stepped in to help. The resident drove the little family to safety. Aside from being slightly overheated, the dog and her puppies were in good health.
Two babies with very unusual markings
Now settled into a foster home, the mother has been named Millie, and her two female puppies are Tillie and Bessie. The rescue team was amazed by the puppies' appearance, as their black-and-white patches look just like tiny cows.
Despite looking so different, Millie is a very attentive mother. A spokesperson from the charity said that the mum feeds them regularly and both little girls are growing nicely.
A genetic mystery to solve
To understand where these unique markings come from, the shelter has added a pet DNA test to their Amazon wishlist, hoping a kind donor might buy it for them.
While they wait for answers about their mix, the volunteers are keeping a close eye on the little family and sharing updates on their progress.
