On Thursday 13 August, the summer heat was at its peak in the Loire-Atlantique region of France. Holidaymakers at the Clos Joly campsite in Guérande were making the most of a relaxing day. Among them, one woman was cooling off peacefully in the swimming pool, enjoying a carefree moment under the summer sun.
Within minutes, however, the peaceful atmosphere vanished. Thick black smoke began rising above the trees, signaling an out-of-control fire just a stone's throw from the campsite.
An instinctive and heroic reaction
With the flames spreading quickly towards the campsite, the urgency of the situation became clear. As evacuation orders began to circulate among the campers, this holidaymaker had only one thing on her mind: the safety of her loyal four-legged companion.
Without letting panic set in, the young woman jumped straight out of the pool. Ignoring the mounting chaos around her, she rushed back to her pitch to rescue her pet. Just seconds later, holding her dog safe and sound against her, she managed to flee the site. "I was in the pool, I grabbed my dog, and I left," she recalled with relief.
A happy ending thanks to a quick response
The rapid response of over 80 firefighters, as reported by local newspaper Ouest France, brought the fire under control after it had burnt through 12 acres of land. Thanks to the calm heads of the residents and the efficiency of the emergency services, no injuries were reported.
For this devoted owner, the most important thing is that her precious companion is safe and by her side. It is a wonderful demonstration of love that reminds us of the irreplaceable place our pets hold in our daily lives!
