The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck northern Venezuela.
Sadly, their sheer power destroyed many homes and caused widespread devastation.
A miracle under the rubble
For 29 days, rescue teams searched tirelessly through the debris. The miracle finally happened at the end of July. Deep beneath the rubble of a collapsed house, they found an 11-year-old Poodle. Against all the odds, and after everything she had been through, Beyli was still alive!
The poor dog was extremely weak, dehydrated, and severely underweight. Despite the tragedy that had destroyed her home, Beyli clung to life with incredible strength. Heartbreakingly, she was found lying close to her owner's mother, who had sadly passed away when the building collapsed.
A glimmer of hope
Beyli was rushed to a veterinary clinic, where a medical team immediately started rehydrating her and administering emergency treatment. The vets also treated several eye injuries caused by the dust and the long weeks spent trapped under the ruins. Thankfully, her condition is now stable, and her prognosis is very encouraging.
Beyli's family are currently staying in a temporary shelter for displaced families. They have now been reunited with their beloved dog, and it was an incredibly emotional reunion. We send our very best wishes and support to Beyli and her family during this difficult time.
