Alerted by Facebook post, shelter team rescues puppies hidden in cemetery

By Elodie Carpentier

In the city of Mission, Texas, in the USA, a group of very young puppies left to fend for themselves in a cemetery has touched the hearts of the local community.

It was a heartbreaking scene that recently unfolded in a cemetery in Mission, a city in southern Texas, USA.

As reported by the website The Dodo, several puppies were found wandering among the graves. These adorable little animals did not hesitate to run up to visitors who had come to pay their respects to deceased loved ones.

A shocking discovery on social media

Juliana Martinez Cano, the animal welfare manager at the local municipal shelter (Mission Animal Shelter), found out about these young dogs after spotting a Facebook post.

Puppies brought to safety

Refusing to leave these animals to their sad fate, the shelter manager and her team moved heaven and earth to find the puppies. Thanks to the community and animal control officers who mobilised quickly, the dogs were located in time.

Taken in by the Mission Animal Shelter, the puppies were brought to safety, fed, and examined by vets.

They are now waiting to go to foster homes or be put up for adoption, far from the distress of their early days.
