Late in the afternoon on Thursday 4 June, the SPA in Thionville, France, received an emergency call about an eight-month-old mother cat and her six kittens. On arrival, they found children committing truly shocking acts against the poor kittens.
According to several eyewitnesses, the children first amused themselves by grabbing the kittens by the scruff of their necks and shaking them around. The ordeal did not end there. They then dunked them in a swimming pool for several seconds, before scooping them out with a net.
The whole family is safe and sound
Faced with this critical situation, the SPA rescuers acted immediately to retrieve the animals. Fortunately, their quick intervention prevented a tragedy. The whole little family is now safe and sound, resting in a secure environment.
Following the rescue, the French animal charity firmly reminded the public that the law severely punishes animal cruelty. Those responsible for such violence face up to three years in prison and a fine of €45,000.
An appeal for responsibility and a search for a foster home
The SPA in Thionville used this sad event to share an important message with families. The charity stresses how vital it is to teach children to respect animals from a young age. Parents play a major role in passing on values of empathy, kindness, and responsibility towards all living creatures.
To give these rescues the best possible future, the SPA is now actively looking for a foster home. The young mum and her six kittens need a warm, safe temporary home to help them recover from their ordeal.
