In the middle of an orchard in California, USA, the stray dog found a cardboard box.
He squeezed inside, desperate to stay dry.
A makeshift shelter
To some, a soggy piece of cardboard might not look like much. But for Alejandro, it was his only shield against the driving rain. Officers from Fresno Humane Animal Services rushed to the scene to help after receiving a report about a stray dog out in the wet weather.
When they arrived, they initially only saw a small, abandoned box sitting in the middle of the fruit orchard. But as they got closer, they realised the pup they were looking for had taken refuge inside. Shivering, wet, and clearly exhausted, the poor little dog seemed to be in shock that someone had come to save him.
A gentle rescue and a fresh start
The rescuers wanted to avoid causing him any extra stress, so they handled him very gently before putting him in their vehicle. Once safe inside, they dried him off, wrapped him in warm blankets, and offered him some wet food.
After receiving veterinary care, vaccinations, and the necessary treatments, he was handed over to the Valley Animal Center, who kindly agreed to take him in.
When he first arrived at the shelter, Alejandro was still very shy and wary. But as the days went by, the volunteers watched his lovely personality slowly emerge. He started wagging his tail whenever the staff approached, showing more and more confidence.
Today, Alejandro is in good health and is waiting for his forever home. The shelter staff are convinced that this affectionate young dog will thrive in any loving home.
