Shelter staff's urgent plea: what they're finding every morning is unmanageable

By Ludivine Mazzotti

The rescue team at the Brioude SPA in the Haute-Loire region of France are growing increasingly concerned.

For several weeks, the rescue team has been dealing with a constant stream of abandoned kittens.

The first incident involved four kittens found in the donation box outside the shelter's entrance.

A wave of abandonments

This is despite a clear sign stating that the box is not for leaving animals. Two days later, the team made a horrific discovery: three kittens, just a few hours old, had been dumped in a bin bag near a container in the town of Brioude.

The poor kittens were freezing cold. Of the three found inside the bag, one was already dead. Another passed away a few hours after being discovered, and the last one died two days later.

At breaking point

The rescue team has issued an urgent appeal. Since May, they have been taking in new kittens every single day. With the surge in abandonments, they fear the shelter will soon be completely overwhelmed. The centre only has space for 60 animals, but they estimate they will be caring for 80 cats very soon...

The team is now desperately searching for foster families to help house the animals. In a Facebook post, they confirmed that they would cover all food and veterinary costs. It is hoped that the situation will soon improve for the Brioude shelter.
