Family finds a puppy in their garden: the next morning, they hear crying from under the porch

By Elise Petter

Kara Barreras was expecting a quiet evening with her family when a tiny puppy appeared in the middle of her lawn. The little creature was quickly scooped up, but she was only the first piece of an emotional puzzle that would come together the next morning.

As soon as she was inside, the puppy, quickly named Alice by Kara's son, showed signs of severe neglect. The poor little animal was covered in fleas and ant bites. Kara immediately got to work to make her comfortable. "We're going to give her another little bath to try and kill the rest of these fleas," she explained in a TikTok video.

Relieved and grateful to finally be safe, Alice was instantly affectionate and spent her first evening snuggled up to Kara. Kara had planned to check the neighbourhood the next morning, looking for the puppy's mother or any other siblings. But fate had other plans.

Heartbreaking cries the next morning

When she got up, it wasn't the barking of a mother dog that Kara heard, but loud, desperate cries coming from under her porch. "A crazy night turned into an even crazier morning," she said.

Kneeling on the wet grass, Kara came face to face with a second, soaking wet puppy. As soon as it saw a human face, the little animal rushed towards her, overjoyed to have finally found help. While Alice had been calm and quiet from the start, her white sister turned out to be the complete opposite: noisy, lively, and bursting with energy.

Two happy endings for the price of one

After searching the entire neighbourhood for the mother to no avail, the family had to face the facts: the two sisters had been abandoned. Initially, Kara hadn't been planning to adopt a dog. But when she saw the instant connection and the inseparable bond that formed between Alice and her son Noah, she knew she couldn't say no.

The second little puppy wasn't left out, though. Close family friends, who were grieving the recent loss of their own dog, immediately agreed to adopt her.
