Carers come up with ingenious way to save two premature kittens

By Elodie Carpentier

Two tiny orphaned kittens found the strength to survive thanks to a chance encounter. It's a heartwarming story of a healing friendship that is touching the hearts of animal lovers everywhere.

This is the story of two 'premature' kittens who, separated from their mothers just hours after birth, statistically had almost no chance of survival.

As reported by The Dodo, the two tiny cats, named Punk and Pixie, were taken in by the US-based rescue organisation Orphan Kitten Club in an extremely vulnerable state.

The volunteers and foster families who cared for them knew that every hour they stayed alive was a miracle. Their daily routine involved intensive care, round-the-clock bottle feeding, and incubators. But there was one essential ingredient missing for their recovery: the warmth of another kitten.

That's when their rescuers decided to take a chance and bring them together. Although they weren't from the same litter, these two little survivors shared the same trauma and the same deep-seated need for affection.

The healing power of a cuddle

From the moment they were placed together, something magical happened. The two tiny creatures immediately snuggled up to each other.

By sleeping side-by-side, they managed to stabilise their body temperatures. Their strength returned, their appetites improved, and most importantly, the first purrs began to fill the room. They became true pillars of support for one another.

On the road to a new life

Today, although they are still being closely monitored, the two kittens are transformed. They have overcome the most critical stage of their development. This incredibly close bond, born out of adversity, has sealed their fate: the rescue now refuses to separate them and is looking for a forever home that is ready to welcome this inseparable pair.
