The incident occurred on 4th May at around 6:45 PM on Conewango Avenue. Witnesses saw a black bag thrown from the window of a moving white pick-up truck. Inside the plastic bag, which was carefully tied shut to prevent any escape, was a tiny grey kitten.
Miraculously, the tiny kitten, estimated to be between six and eight weeks old, was not injured during the fall. A photo shared by the authorities shows the little survivor looking calm and peaceful, perched on a police officer's shoulder after the rescue.
Police launch a manhunt
The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) are taking the matter very seriously and have posted an appeal on social media to help identify the person responsible. The vehicle involved is described as a white, single-cab Chevrolet pick-up truck with no number plate and showing signs of rust on its bodywork.
Investigators have asked residents with CCTV to check their footage between 6:30 PM and 7:15 PM on the evening of the incident. “Anyone with information is asked to contact Warren police,” the official statement said.
A brighter future
Although the kitten has surely been through a traumatic ordeal, its future is now looking much brighter. After being taken in by the police, the little ‘roadside miracle’ was handed over to a specialist rescue centre and now wants for nothing.
This barbaric act has sparked a wave of outrage on social media, a stark reminder that abandoning an animal in this manner is a crime with severe penalties. The police are hopeful that with the public's help, they will find the driver of the pick-up truck and bring them to justice.
