A couple in Sainte-Jamme-sur-Sarthe, France, has been through a living nightmare. They were horrified to discover their cat, Yoko, buried alive under paving slabs and bricks in a neighbour's garden.

It was a waking nightmare for a couple in France. As reported by the regional channel France 3, Simon and his partner from Sainte-Jamme-sur-Sarthe found their cat, Yoko, buried alive in a neighbour's garden.

The horrific ordeal began when Yoko went missing. The couple started searching for him, and Simon decided to check a neighbour's property. That's when the unthinkable happened. "I could hear him under my feet," he recalled, still in shock. After lifting some bricks, wooden planks, and a thick layer of soil, he discovered a buried trap cage.

Inside, he found his cat. The poor animal had cuts under his eyes and had torn out his claws trying to escape. His eyes were congested with dirt and blood. For his owners, there is no doubt: "There was a clear intention to kill, that's for sure."

The alleged perpetrator has been identified

This isn't the first time the couple has faced such a barbaric act. They had previously lost another cat, Maley, in suspicious circumstances, and another of their cats had once come home covered in blood.

A complaint has been filed for acts of cruelty towards a domestic animal. According to reports, the alleged perpetrator has been identified.

A heartbreaking decision

Faced with this violence and fearing for the safety of their other pets, Simon and his partner have made a drastic decision to move house. "We can't live here anymore, it's more than we can bear," they explained.
