In Drayton, Ohio, an abandoned dog spent three days barking in a primary school playground before anyone noticed his distress.
Meanwhile, a woman named Katherine came across a photo of the white dog. The person who had found the animal was trying to find his family.
Katherine, who runs the Dayton Dog Den, a centre specialising in dog grooming, training, and boarding, immediately decided to go to the location.
Signs of fear
When she arrived, she decided to set a trap with some food to lure the dog in. After waiting for several hours, the animal was finally brought to safety.
The poor dog, now named Petey, was showing signs of fear. He was barking and urinating in the crate.
A fresh start for Petey
With no microchip or collar, it was impossible to trace Petey's identity or find out who had left him there.
Petey was then placed with a foster family. He will soon be available for adoption, giving him the chance to learn to trust people again.
