Sneezing only in the evening

Hello, for a few days now my cat has been having these mini sneezing fits; they don't last more than a few seconds but they are repetitive throughout the evening. I get the impression it only happens when she's lying on her cushion on my bed or nearby, and as far as I know, it only starts in the evening. I don't understand what's happening to her.

My cat is a female, around 14 years old.

    Good evening,

If this sneezing mostly happens when she's lying on her bed or your bed, I’d also wonder if there's something in her environment irritating her: dust trapped in the fabric, laundry detergent, fabric softener, a recently washed blanket, or even just a bit more dust in the bedroom in the evening.

As your girl is 14, I would however keep a close eye on any changes: a runny nose, watery eyes, noisier breathing, a loss of appetite, or unusual lethargy. In that case, it would be best to take her to the vet without waiting too long.

The idea of filming one of these sneezing fits is excellent; it will really help the vet understand exactly what's happening.

I hope it's nothing serious and that your little companion is feeling her usual self again soon. Do keep us posted on how she's doing.

Hi there, It’s possible that when lying down, the pressure on the lungs reveals some underlying discomfort in your cat. As a vet student, I’m not aware of any link between sneezing fits being triggered by the evening. I’d recommend taking a video of one of your cat’s sneezing fits and showing it to your vet during your next appointment. All the best, Quitterie.
