Behaviour after her season

I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed a change after their ***** has been in season. She was bleeding for four weeks and isn’t bleeding anymore, but since yesterday she’s been weak, she’s off her food and she’s drinking very, very little. Walks are a struggle and she hasn’t been to the toilet. I’ve read that it could be some kind of after-effect of being in season - have any of you had the same thing? I’m really worried.

Hello, A dip in energy after being in season shouldn't be dismissed as just a "side effect", especially given the symptoms you’ve described. A dog that has become lethargic, is off her food, and is drinking very little needs to be seen by a vet urgently. In particular, you need to rule out a pyometra (an infection of the womb), which can occur in the weeks following a season. Signs can include severe lethargy and loss of appetite, and the absence of any discharge doesn't mean it can be ruled out. I would advise you to contact a vet or an out-of-hours emergency vet right away. Don’t wait to see if she improves, as this is a potentially life-threatening condition. Best of luck, Maëlla

That isn't normal. Being a bit off-colour is one thing, but if she’s barely drinking or eating... get her to the vet today for a quick check-up. It’s better not to wait until next Monday (you never know, if she has a womb infection, it can go downhill very quickly and be fatal).
