Can homemade chicken cat food be a good option for picky cats?

My cat has become very selective with food and often refuses dry kibble. I'm thinking of trying homemade chicken cat food since it seems fresher and more appealing. Has anyone switched their picky cat to homemade chicken cat food, and did you notice an improvement in their appetite or overall eating habits?

Hi there, Chicken is often very palatable and can definitely help encourage a cat to eat. However, a diet made up solely of chicken isn't balanced and can lead to deficiencies if fed in the long term. If your cat has suddenly become a fussy eater, especially if they are an adult or a senior, I'd suggest speaking to your vet before making any major changes to their diet. A drop in appetite can sometimes be a sign of an underlying health problem (dental pain, kidney disease, digestive issues, etc.). If you're looking to switch to a home-cooked diet, it's certainly an option, but it must be formulated by a vet or a veterinary nutritionist to make sure it covers all of your cat's needs. In the meantime, you could try slightly warming their food, offering smaller amounts more often, or adding a tiny bit of plain cooked chicken to stimulate their appetite, without completely replacing their dry food. All the best, Inès
