Retraining as a Dog Behaviourist

Hi everyone.
I'm posting here as I haven't yet found a forum dedicated to this sort of thing, so I'm hoping to get a few answers.

I studied dressmaking and I've been working in the trade for a few years now without really finding a role where I feel happy. As my fixed-term contract is coming to an end, I've come to a conclusion: "I'm fed up with going for jobs and companies that just don't suit me".

During my studies, I often thought about moving into a career working with animals, especially dogs. Now that my contract is finishing, I feel like this could be the chance to give it a go. On top of that, having lost my beloved dog nearly two years ago, I want to train so I can give a future dog the best possible life; I’m well aware that my late dog deserved much more than I was able to give him, given all the love he gave me.

My plan is to get the necessary animal welfare certifications and a qualification as a dog behaviourist or trainer. However, as I have bills to pay and will have no choice but to work alongside my studies, I'm thinking of looking into distance learning courses (with practical placements to get a feel for the reality of the job). In the future, I hope to work in a rescue centre to help with rehoming animals, or in a breeding environment to ensure dogs are well-adjusted before they head off to their new families.
Has anyone here tried distance learning? Are you happy with it in hindsight? What is the pace of work like?

Thanks in advance for your replies.
