Sexing a kitten for adoption

Based on the photos you’ve sent and the diagram below, it looks like the little kitten is a male, but I’d still suggest checking with your vet or checking manually for testicles.

For instance, in the photo below, the female is on the left and the male is on the right.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind you that if you have a male and a female together and they haven't been neutered, they will have kittens. If you don't want a litter, it’s worth speaking to your vet for advice on having the male castrated and/or the female spayed.

Based on photos alone, especially at around 7 weeks and with different angles in the two images, it’s hard to be 100% certain.

Generally speaking:
• in a female, the anus and vulva are quite close together (looking a bit like an ‘i’);
• in a male, the space between the two openings is usually wider (looking more like a ‘:’).

Looking at these, I’d lean towards it being **female**, but **be cautious** — age, positioning, and fur can be misleading. The most reliable thing is to have it checked by the foster family, the rescue, or the vet during the first check-up.

If your male cat is already at home, also remember to do gradual introductions: even with a kitten, it really helps them get along well 😊
