I have 4 kittens that need rehoming, but Gumtree requires a microchip ID which neither the kittens nor the mum have.

Would anyone be willing to share an ID number with me?

Hi, I strongly advise against using another animal's ID number. The identification mentioned in the adverts must match the mother or the kittens themselves if they have already been microchipped. For a legal transfer, kittens must be microchipped before they leave, and the advert must include the required regulatory information. I recommend contacting your vet, who will be able to advise you on the necessary steps. Best regards, Romane

Hi there, You can't use another animal's ID number; it's quite simply illegal. No one is going to give you their cat's ID, as nobody wants to be caught up in animal trafficking. You might only want to get your kittens rehomed, but someone with bad intentions could make the exact same request as you 😕 The easiest way is to get your cat microchipped so you can post the advert (and have her spayed at the same time, so you don't end up in this situation again). To keep everything completely above board, you should also have the kittens microchipped and vaccinated when they are rehomed. A responsible adopter won't mind paying a contribution towards the vet bill for these; technically it turns a "free" kitten into a sale, but it doesn't make you a professional breeder who has to be officially registered.
