Help with dating a dog's pregnancyHi everyone, we had quite a surprise when we got back from holiday and found out our dog is pregnant. I didn't notice her being in season and didn't see any mating, but we know who the father is as he's the only dog she's regularly around.

Here is the X-ray from the 6th of July; our vet told us she had about another week or so to go, without being able to give more details. Of course, this is her first litter and it wasn't planned, so I am incredibly stressed. I'm calling the vet tomorrow, but my own research makes me think she was at 54 days or maybe less when the X-ray was taken. If any of you have any thoughts on the X-ray, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi there,

I completely understand how stressful this situation can be, especially with it being an unplanned first litter. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to interpret an X-ray and estimate a due date with any certainty just from a photo. You're doing the right thing by getting back in touch with your vet; they'll be able to guide you through the final stages of the pregnancy and explain which signs to look out for. I hope everything goes as well as possible for your girl and her puppies.

    Best wishes,

    Victoire
