My dog's got sunburnt

Evening everyone, it's been a few days since my dog got sunburnt (I was chasing after him in vain to get him to come inside to avoid this, but he just loves sunbathing!).

Today, I've noticed he's still a bit red on his lower belly and he's peeling a tiny bit.

In that same area, he's also got two small spots that look a bit more 'burnt' (a bit like a tiny scab), though it seems quite mild. It doesn't seem to be painful, nor is he scratching it or anything; he has no reaction and I can touch it without any problems.

I was wondering if applying a bit of a soothing skin repair cream would be a good idea to moisturise it a bit and soothe the redness?

I've read that putting on burn cream or paraffin gauze is okay, so I've got some soothing cream at home and wanted to know your thoughts and experiences!

Have a lovely evening!

Hi, From what you’ve described, it sounds like a superficial burn. However, do be careful with human creams – they aren’t ideal for dogs, especially if he can lick the area, as some ingredients aren't intended for them and can cause problems if swallowed. I’d suggest keeping the area clean and dry and keeping him out of the sun. If you want to put anything on it, it would be best to get your vet’s advice first. If it gets any worse (swelling, discharge, licking) or doesn’t improve within a few days, it’s best to have a word with your vet. Have a good day, Maëlla
