Hi everyone,

I’m going away for a 3-day trip and I’m going to have to leave my absolute world alone for 3 days. I feel terrible about doing it... Of course, I’ve got a pet sitter and her boyfriend who live in the same town as me and they’ll be coming over twice a day to check on her, but I still feel awful, especially with this heatwave... I’ve left her for one night before, but this is for three... I feel like I’m abandoning her even though I love her with all my heart. I’m going away to recharge my batteries, but I’ve ended up just feeling really anxious. Am I a horrible person?

If it's a small dog, maybe it's worth taking him with you? If not, having someone pop in is essential. Twice a day might not be enough, though. A dog needs to go to the toilet and usually does so three times a day. It would be best if the pet sitter could take the pup to their own home for those three days.

    Hello,

Three days with a pet sitter popping in twice a day is a perfectly good setup for a dog, especially if she's already used to you being away. Your dog will mainly be affected by the change in routine, rather than feeling “betrayed” in the way we humans tend to imagine. The most important thing is that her needs are being looked after, which is clearly the case here. Try to leave with peace of mind; she’ll be perfectly safe.

    Best regards,

    Romane

It’s not ideal, really. Dogs aren't like cats; they can really struggle with it. Could your mate or the pet sitter not stay at your place while you're away, or maybe take him back to theirs?
