Wound on the neck

Hi everyone,

My cat has had a wound on his neck for a few days now and it seems to be getting bigger. It started off as a small, slightly weeping lump.

I can't really see a lump anymore.

Wound on the neck

I think it's where he had a tick, but I'm not 100% sure about the exact spot. I definitely removed the tick including the head.

We haven't noticed any changes in his daily routine. He's still spending most of his time outdoors, eating all his dry food, playing with our dog...

Do you have any idea what it could be and what we should do?

We've booked an appointment with the vet, but it's not until Wednesday.

Thanks in advance

Hi, This lesion mostly looks like a burst abscess, which is common in cats that go outdoors. A reaction to a tick is possible, but it seems less likely if the wound is still getting bigger. While waiting for your appointment, gently clean the area with some saline solution and keep an eye out for any pus, a bad smell, or a change in behaviour. If the wound spreads quickly or if your cat seems lethargic, contact your vet immediately rather than waiting until Wednesday. Best wishes, Romane
