Very unstable/sensitive digestion in my 7-year-old cat

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice or feedback from anyone who has a cat with a very reactive/sensitive gut flora.

Here is the situation with my cat (7 years old):

  • About a month ago (around 10th Sept): The trouble started with several small, soft to very soft stools. He had a stay in a cattery at the end of July with other cats.

  • 1st treatment: After a wormer + Pro-Kolin, everything cleared up. But when we stopped the Pro-Kolin after a week, it started all over again.

  • 2nd treatment: We then tried Fortiflora: perfect stools for 2 weeks! Then, as soon as we stopped the Fortiflora, the stools became soft again.

  • Today: We have reintroduced the Pro-Kolin and Fortiflora, and he has just done some perfect, well-formed poos.

Tests and general health:

  • Full fecal analysis (stool sample) carried out by the vet: 100% negative (no parasites, no Giardia, no bacteria).

  • The vet was very reassuring and isn't worried at all.

  • He is in great shape: good appetite, playful, and curious.

My questions: Have any of you ever had a cat whose gut flora took a long time to stabilise without depending on probiotics or clay binders? Have you had to extend probiotic courses over several months?

Thanks in advance for your advice and for sharing your stories!

    Hi,

It's really positive that your cat is doing well, eating properly, and that the tests are reassuring!

The fact that his stools are becoming well-formed again with the probiotics is interesting, but it doesn't necessarily mean his gut flora is still out of balance or that he'll be dependent on these supplements.

At the end of each course, do you stop them suddenly or is it a gradual process?

If the issues persist or keep coming back, it's also worth discussing other possible causes with her, particularly a food sensitivity.

    Have a good evening,

    Maëlla
