Biscuit-coloured coat

Hello everyone

Our dog, who we adopted when he was 2, certainly seems to be a White Swiss Shepherd, but his coat is biscuit-coloured (it's very lovely, though).

What could be the reason for this? (He's not on a salmon-based diet)

Hi there, You’re right, that ‘biscuit’ or light fawn coat is absolutely stunning! Since you mentioned your dog isn't on a salmon-based diet (which can occasionally colour the fur due to carotenoids or certain oils), the reason is almost definitely down to genetics. The White Swiss Shepherd is a direct descendant of the German Shepherd, which carries genes for sable, black and tan coats. Even though the breed was specifically selected for its white coat, those ancestral genes do sometimes resurface, resulting in that unique and striking look. I hope you have many happy years with your dog! Best wishes, Laure.
