Gunky eye that sticks shut

My 9-year-old Maltese has been having some eye issues lately. One eye in particular is constantly weeping, and the discharge dries and sticks the eye shut, which makes it go quite red. I’ve been bathing it with saline solution, which helps as it cleans the eye and he can open it fully, but it’s only a temporary fix. After he’s had a long nap, it’s back to square one. <\/p>

I’ve got a vet appointment booked, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice or has dealt with something similar. I should also mention that he’s had a bit of a cold recently; he’s been sneezing a lot and sniffling.<\/p>
