Hi everyone,

I've always had between 2 and 4 cats.

I had 4, but this summer has been a real tragedy. I only have one left now and I think she's suffering from depression because she's always lived with other cats. She isn't eating much, but mainly she yowls all day long while pacing in circles. I've been told that you should wait at least 3 months before adopting another one.

What do you all think?

    I understand why you’re worried about your youngest cat. Having always lived with other cats, she could definitely be unsettled by these changes and the loss of her companions.

    However, the fact that she’s eating less and crying all day while pacing around would make me suggest seeing a vet before assuming it's purely down to loneliness or the need for a new companion. In cats, a change in behaviour or appetite can also have an underlying medical cause.

    Regarding the three-month wait, I don’t think there’s any hard and fast rule about waiting that long before adopting another cat. It depends mostly on her health, her temperament, and how the introduction is managed.
