Chunky cats since being neutered despite dry food

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice, please.

I have 3 cats. They were very slim before they were neutered. Then they became quite overweight, despite the specific dry food recommended by the vet and bought directly from their surgery.

Do you know of any dry food brands that don't cause weight gain in neutered cats?

I should point out that it's impossible for me to control the portions with 3 cats. Mind you, I don't even see them wolfing down their biscuits. Not at all. Otherwise, they play together, run around... but it doesn't seem to be enough to burn off the calories. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi there,

After neutering, a cat's energy requirements often drop by 20 to 30%, which explains why they put on weight even on a suitable diet. Usually, the issue is more about the amount being fed than the brand of dry food. It isn't always easy when you have several cats, but it can be helpful to weigh out their portions, use puzzle feeders or automatic dispensers, and encourage foraging games to keep them active. If your cats still keep gaining weight despite this, don’t hesitate to check in with your vet to assess their body condition and tailor their portions more specifically.

    Best wishes,

    Romane
