Hello, I’m posting here because I’d like to get some opinions. Three and a half years ago, I adopted a stray cat who turned up at my house called Roudoudou.
He was FIV positive and had chronic cat flu.
A week ago, I noticed he was completely lethargic, sleeping all the time; I hadn't realised before.
His kidneys were enlarged, and his urea level was 3g. He was hospitalised for two days.
In the space of a week, I had to say goodbye to him.
I only found out yesterday that he had heart failure, which meant he had been overcompensating, and that's why his kidneys were so enlarged. When he was hospitalised, my regular vet didn't do a scan; the emergency vet was surprised that he hadn't had an ultrasound.
I only found out yesterday when he was put to sleep that he had heart failure, even though no one had mentioned it to me.
This cat had annual check-ups.
My question is, is heart disease something that is detected early or only at a late stage?
My cat was estimated to be 6 years old when I adopted him, but during his hospital stay, the vet told me his age had been underestimated.
Thank you for reading.
