Lily is a 9-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. For the first half of the year, her owner only noticed the dog lost interest in fetching balls and would lie around right after every meal. She thought Lily was just middle-aged, putting on weight and growing lazy.
It was not until a short mountain hike that alarming signs showed up: Lily collapsed and sat down after walking merely 200 meters, panting heavily with her mouth open for half an hour without relief. A full vet check-up later confirmed mild mitral regurgitation.
