Hi, for the past 3 days I've noticed that our dog has been passing pus when doing a poo. Is this something serious?

    Hi,

Finding pus around the anus or in your dog's stools for several days isn't normal and definitely warrants a trip to the vet. There could be several causes, most notably inflammation or infection of the anal glands, but it's difficult to be certain without a physical examination.

I'd suggest booking an appointment with your vet as soon as possible, especially if you also notice any pain, swelling, blood, diarrhoea, a fever, or if your dog seems generally under the weather. In the meantime, please avoid trying to express or treat the glands yourself.

    Best wishes,

    Victoire

I’m no expert on dogs, but what you’re describing sounds worrying. If in doubt, book an appointment with your vet as soon as possible. If you also notice that your dog is behaving differently than usual, take them straight to the emergency vet.
