I'm currently looking after two cats for an acquaintance. He first adopted Thétis from a rescue centre two and a half years ago and, more recently, Framboise, who also came from a rescue.
When I look after Thétis on her own, she is very happy and settled; she sleeps with me (usually on my arm, close to my face), purrs like crazy, comes to see me during the day, looks for attention, rubs against me, licks my face, gives me "head bumps" and "talks" a lot (yes, I always talk back to her!).
But now, with her "little sister" here, I don't even recognise Thétis: I'm getting an unusual radio silence, she's practically invisible, avoids me and doesn't want any contact. She is peeing outside the litter tray (they each have their own tray) in the hallway, near the front door, on the kitchen worktop... She sleeps under the bed and doesn't try to come near me. She also hisses at Framboise.
Framboise, on the other hand, comes to sleep on my desk, is very curious, comes for a cuddle; they each have their own dry food and water bowls. When I give them treats, I give them to both at the same time.
I should mention that even at home, since Framboise arrived, Thétis has been peeing outside the tray (I assume because she's unhappy).
Both cats are very cuddly and affectionate, but while Framboise is curious and playful, Thétis has always been very wary, even skittish. Their owner doesn't let them go outside (he had a bad experience with a previous cat and is too worried about his girls); Framboise doesn't care, but Thétis is always trying to sneak out to go exploring—she's a real free spirit looking for adventure.
