Hello everyone, I’d really like to talk to you about something. My cat, Raven, who turns five this October, has been epileptic for three years. Even though she’s on phenobarbital twice a day and Keppra three times a day, she’s still having seizures at least once a week. She gave me a real fright this Sunday, 23rd August. She had a fit at 4:20 pm and then couldn’t get back up until this evening, 24th August. Her legs were slipping and she kept ending up on the floor with her front paws splayed out. Yesterday and this morning, I called an emergency vet who told me it wasn’t an emergency and that I should call my own vet for an urgent appointment. I went for a check-up at 2:30 pm with a specialist neurologist. He didn’t find anything unusual and said the seizure must have been particularly intense, and that it would take 24 to 48 hours for her to recover properly. Thankfully, she can walk again as of 10 pm tonight, even though she had another fit at 10:07 pm. It’s not an easy life for a little cat – poor thing • I’d like to know if there are others in the same boat as me. How do you cope with it? At the same time, I get the impression that no vet really understands epilepsy, unfortunately. They don’t seem to offer any solutions other than increasing the medication dosage if needed... maybe it’s just one of those conditions that can’t be explained.
