Hi everyone,

My partner rescued an orphaned kitten yesterday (he'd been shut in a bin). He has blue eyes, little pointy ears, and plenty of teeth, which makes me think he’s about 5 weeks old. We’re keeping him safe and tucked up warm in a cat carrier; he’s eaten a bit of kitten wet food but isn’t interested in the bottle. We picked him up last night and he still hasn’t been to the toilet this morning (he weed on me yesterday, but nothing else since).

I’d really appreciate some advice on how to look after him, thank you!

    Hello,

Based on your description, he could indeed be around 4 to 6 weeks old.

Many 5 to 6-week-old kittens already prefer solid or semi-solid food: as long as he's eating kitten wet food by himself, it isn't necessarily worrying if he refuses bottle-feeding at this age.

Regarding him going to the toilet, the fact that he has urinated is already reassuring: make sure he stays alert, eats regularly, and doesn't have a very bloated or painful tummy.

I’d suggest weighing him and keeping track of his weight to make sure he's progressing well.

In any case, I recommend having him checked over by a vet soon to assess his age and general health, and to discuss the necessary care (parasites, diet, etc.).

    Best of luck,

    Maëlla
