Pregnancy confirmation

Hi everyone,

I have a Golden Retriever who was mated in April 2025; we're at Day 37 today.

I took her for a pregnancy scan. The vet did an initial one and told me they couldn't see anything because she wasn't fasted and had too much gas, so I should come back a few days later. Went back to the vet's, and before even starting the exam, he told me "we'll do it again but I’ve no doubt she’s empty". The ultrasound lasted 3 minutes, and after less than 50 seconds he just said "well, no luck, she's empty".

I have real doubts about how rushed and botched the scan was.

Has this ever happened to any of you? A negative scan, but in the end the ***** was actually pregnant?

Hello, By Day 37, a pregnancy is usually quite easy to spot on a scan, particularly with a Golden Retriever. However, scans can sometimes be difficult to interpret depending on the circumstances. Mistakes can still happen, even if they aren't very common. If you’re unsure about the quality of the scan, the best thing to do would be to get a second opinion from another vet, perhaps following up with an X-ray a bit later in the pregnancy. Kind regards, Romane
