I’m currently in my final year at the University of Leeds, studying Product Design. For my major project, I am exploring ways to better support older adults when caring for their pets. This idea was inspired by my Grandad, who experienced loneliness while caring for my grandma. When he got a dog, it had a hugely positive impact on his wellbeing, he became happier, more active and more connected. It made me realised how powerful pet companionship can be, especially for older adults. However, I also understand that many elderly people face challenges when it comes to pet care, and some may avoid getting a pet altogether due to these concerns. That's where I hope to make a difference! I will be designing a product aimed at helping older adults care for their pets more easily and confidently. To ensure the solution is truly meaningful, I'm conducting user research to better understand the real-life experiences, needs, and challenges faced by this group.
