Sexual behaviour in a neutered cat

Good evening,

I had my cat neutered at 6 months old, he's now 7 months and is still displaying sexual behaviour — the moment he spots a woollen blanket, he jumps on it and goes to town. Is this normal? How do I stop this behaviour? It's pretty baffling given that he's been neutered..

Little photo of Pompon caught red-handed below.

I hadn't really noticed the blanket, so yes, you're spot on Sandy. My previous cat used to bunch the blanket up and then bite it (as if he was biting a female's neck) 🤭😅 but in this case, you can see it's just kneading.

Evening! As far as I'm aware, this behaviour has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with sexual urges! Far from it; kneading soft blankets is actually linked to comfort and the feeling of well-being that kittens experience when nursing from their mum. My neutered males have always done it, even when living with female cats they never showed any 'urges' towards. No, it's simply their own way of relaxing. Let him keep his little blanket and carry on making biscuits in peace. Let's see if anyone else confirms this... (PS: my girls do it too 🙃) More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kneading_(cats)

    Hi there,

Did your cat already show this behaviour before he was neutered? If so, pets can sometimes keep certain habits even after they’ve been done. It’s nothing to worry about, but if it’s bothering you, try taking the towel away from him each time and give him a firm “no” when you catch him in the act.

My old cat used to do that with a blanket. Neutering makes them sterile, but it doesn't stop them from having urges, just like with us humans. If the blanket bothers you, let him have a soft toy instead.
