Hi everyone,                                                             my dog's penis often pops out and he's been licking it several times a day for a long time now. I've had a bit of a look online and saw that it might be priapism.                                   I want to take him to the vet but I'm not sure if it really is that, because I read that with priapism the penis stays out for several hours, whereas with mine, it comes out and he licks it straight away, which makes it go back in. Could it still be priapism or should I be prepared for something else?                  I could wait until the end of the week, but I'm so worried about what I might find out that I'd like to know what to expect beforehand.
Just to mention, he's 2 years old, he's a Cane Corso and he hasn't been neutered.
Thanks for your help.

    Good evening,

Have you noticed any discharge, redness or bleeding around his penis? It could be a simple case of inflammation. To determine the cause of this excessive licking, I’d recommend seeing a vet, who will examine the penis as well as the testicles and prostate to make sure everything is okay.

    Best regards,

    Wadia

The longer you leave it, the worse it gets. If it’s nothing serious, you’ll be relieved, and if it is something more worrying, you’ll be glad you took him in quickly so he can get treated as soon as possible.
