I’d give the same advice – it’s definitely worth having a chat about it with your family.
And don’t hesitate to get him to the vet if there’s any vomiting or if he’s struggling to go (constipation).
For a puppy, you can help things ‘move along’ by giving them a bit of olive oil.
For a dog weighing less than 22 lbs (roughly 1.5 stone), it’s just under half a teaspoon of raw olive oil, once a day.
No more than once a day for a puppy,
so you don’t end up causing diarrhoea... (keep an eye on his poo).
Depending on what he’s eating... if he’s already had carrots before, you can add a teaspoon of raw blended carrots with a little water.
At the moment, you need to be careful with raw pork (there have been recent reports of Aujeszky’s disease in some pig farms).
Some raw feeders have been avoiding raw pork meat or offal since that announcement.
See you tomorrow for an update on your little one.
You should probably have a word with your parents about it first...
Alright, thanks for your help, I’ll keep you posted 😌
To make things easier... we should wait for @Doudou to weigh in, especially for a small dog, as I wouldn't want to give you the wrong advice.
But in any case, a dog should do their business at least once or twice a day, so if there’s nothing after 24 hours, or if they have a fever (over 38°C for a dog), or if they’re being sick or lose their appetite => Vet.
Right, but how long can he go without doing a poo before it becomes dangerous? And is there anything I could give him to make things a bit easier for him?
Yeah, if the paper causes a blockage, he’ll vomit up whatever he’s eaten... because nothing will be able to pass through his system.
If he does a poo, you need to check if any paper is coming out and how much there is.
You won’t really be in the clear until pretty much all the paper has passed through...
If the paper gets stuck further down, the dog will probably try to strain at first but won’t be able to go... but he might not start being sick until quite a bit later...
So obviously you’ve got to keep an eye out for any vomiting, but you also need to make sure over the next few days that everything is coming out the other end naturally.
Well, I’ve called my vet and he didn’t say anything about his poo. He just told me to keep an eye on him, and if he starts being sick, I’ll need to take him to the emergency vet because my own vet is quite a way away.
