Dog shivering / stomach gurgling

Hi everyone,

I have a little dog named Pixel, a small Yorkie-type dog who is less than a year old.

Recently, he's been having a gurgling stomach and has been very lethargic for 24-hour stretches. He won't eat or drink. Once that period passes, he's perfectly fine again.

After this happened a few times, I went to the vet. They told me it was colic and recommended this type of dry food (maybe there's another reason for it too):

He was on Friskies puppy food before that. No other tests or check-ups were done.

The vet felt his tummy and everything seemed fine, except for the lethargy, gurgling, and shivering.

We've been feeding him the new dry food for 4 or 5 days now, but his tummy was gurgling again this morning. But no shivering or anything else. Strange! ^^

Extra details: he also vomited twice in the morning last week, two days apart—yellow foam and then bile.

I'm the type of person who worries very easily.

If this happens again, should I head back to the vet and ask for some tests? Just so I can have it in black and white that nothing is wrong, or should I just get used to this?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, we were advised to give it to him in those situations.

He was sick, but right after he seemed totally fine again.

The one I posted was just to give you an idea. I'll give you the exact product details this evening :)

No, he doesn't eat grass. When his tummy rumbles and he seems a bit lethargic, we give him some Phosphaluvet (a stomach settler), and within 24 hours—sometimes even by that same evening—he’s right as rain.

When he was sick this week, he threw up and then he was back to his usual self straight away.

But as for the grass, no.

The vet said he’s just got a sensitive stomach and that’s just the way he is. ^^

If I were you, I’d give him a stomach settler like Phosphaluvet, as your dog must have a bit of a stomach ache, especially if he’s been vomiting bile. You could try giving him a short course of it whenever he’s in pain. If it still doesn’t clear up, you’ll need to head back to the vet. The dry food they recommended isn't actually that good because it contains maize, among other things; it’s better to go for a grain-free dry food. Does your dog eat grass when he has these flare-ups?
